Kevin Johansen could be forgiven almost anything for titling one of his
songs, "Buenos Aires Anti-Social Club". Happily, there is little to
forgive. Born in Alaska but resident in Argentina, Johansen peddles a
wry brand of subtropicalismo: catchy acoustic songs, half in Spanish,
half in English; the Nada provide a chamber backing of violin,
bandoneon and percussion. "I love a simple tune/that anyone can play",
he sings on the deceptively simple "Everything Is (Falling Into
Place)". When the earth moves for him, in "La Falla de San Andres", it
does indeed turn out to be "San Andrea's Fault".
